Revenue Uplift of Wind Power Producer

The Genesis NGN team helped a wind power company maximize its revenue and optimize different processes involved in wind power production.

Client

Our client is a wind power company with many wind power plants all over the world. The company does not manufacture wind turbines, but rather purchases them from different manufacturers and installs them in various locations on turnkey basis. They sell electricity produced by their wind turbines to local governments or private energy companies.

The Challenge

Multiple problems were faced by the company, including less electricity production, more downtime, and higher maintenance and repair costs. They wanted to improve their current situation and fix the problems affecting their business.

The solution

Genesis NGN set up a team of experienced engineers and technicians to understand the problem. The team visited multiple locations where the client was facing issues that were affecting their business. The team thoroughly analyzed data for different parameters, like, efficiency of wind turbines in different locations, efficiency of wind turbines of different manufacturers, effect of wind changes on the output, optimum maintenance schedule to maximize the output and minimize the downtime. Also, the Genesis team met with the engineers and technicians who maintain the wind turbines and examined the SOPs they follow.

The Genesis NGN team built a software solution that provides information about wind turbine performance and possible malfunctions of any parts in real time to the maintenance team, and if something is not working then the maintenance team can proactively address the problem. The Genesis team also introduced drones into the inspection and maintenance of wind turbines. This resulted in a 40x reduction in inspection time and a 3X reduction in maintenance time. The software also added a predictive output schedule based on weather forecasts as well as maintenance schedule and past data, so that the client teams could negotiate the electricity sales based on projected production.

Results

  1. Inspection visits are reduced
  2. Reduction in maintenance time
  3. Less idle time
  4. Optimized the efficiency of wind turbines
  5. The overall production of electricity or output increased
  6. Expenses are reduced
  7. A rise in revenue was achieved
