Artificial Intelligence (AI) is apparently the most intricate and astounding creations of humans. It is a branch of computer science that ventures to simulate or replicate human intelligence in a machine, enabling the machines to accomplish tasks that require human intelligence. Some of the programmable functions of artificial intelligence systems include planning, reasoning, learning, decision making, and problem-solving.

AI systems are powered by algorithms, employing techniques like deep learning, machine learning, and rules. Machine learning (ML) algorithms feed computer data to artificial intelligence (AI) systems, using statistical techniques to equip artificial intelligence systems to learn. Through ML, AI systems get incrementally better at work without having to be explicitly programmed to do so. 

Artificial Intelligence technologies have transformed the abilities of businesses globally, empowering humans to automate time-consuming tasks and gain untapped insights into the data through rapid pattern identification. However, understanding the different types of AI will give a clearer picture of artificial intelligence AI capabilities and the long road ahead for further research.

Understanding the Types of Artificial Intelligence

The different types of artificial intelligence technologies are classified by their capability to mimic human qualities, their real-world applications, the technology they employ to do this, and the theory of mind.

Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)

Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), also referred to as narrow AI or weak AI, is the only type of AI that has been successfully realized to date. ANI is designed to perform goal-oriented singular tasks like facial recognition, voice assistants, speech recognition, searching the internet, or driving a car. ANI is very reliable at executing the specific work it is programmed to accomplish.

The ANI machines are operated under a narrow set of limitations and constraints, which is why it is referred to as weak AI. It does not replicate human intelligence. ANI only simulates human behavior on the basis of a narrow range of contexts and parameters.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) 

AGI (Artificial general intelligence), also referred to as deep AI or strong AI, is the notion of a machine with a general capacity that mimics human intelligence and behaviors, along with the ability to learn and employ the intelligence to solve any issue. Artificial general intelligence can understand, analyze, and respond in a manner that is indistinguishable from that of a human being in any situation.

AI scientists and researchers have not yet achieved deep AI or strong AI. To succeed, scientists would need to find a method to make tools conscious by programming a complete set of cognitive capabilities. For this, experiential learning needs to be taken to the next level by not merely enhancing efficiency on singular works but by obtaining the ability to employ experiential knowledge to a range of different issues.

Artificial Superintelligence (ASI)

ASI (Artificial super intelligence) is the hypothetical Artificial intelligence that does not just understand or mimic human intelligence or behavior. ASI technology enables machines to become self-aware and outdo the potential of human intelligence and ability.

ASI or Super intelligence has long been the stimulus of dystopian science fiction in which the robots overthrow, overrun, or enslave humankind. The concept of ASI is to evolve AI to be so similar to human experiences and emotions that it does not just understand them but evokes emotions, beliefs, needs, and desires of its own.

The potential of having such powerful tools at the disposal may seem alluring, but the notion itself has a multitude of unknown consequences.
